Spring Street Row by Row Quilt

Well I can finally tell you about the new project I have been working on over the past few months.
It is a brand new 'Row by Row' of the month Project. I can show you a snippet of it here, with Boris giving it his seal of approval snuggle...

We are currently kitting it up and the first month will be ready to go from March 1st.
We are taking expressions of interest now though.
It is 60" x 74" perfect for a single bed/king single bed.

How yummy are these new flannels from Bonnie and Camille's Ruby range.....
Hmmmm New PJ's for winter or perhaps a raggy quilt!

These Marcus Bros flannels are so bright and happy, how could we suffer winter blues under a quilt made from these little pretties!

There are also some Tanya Whelan 'Sugar Hill flannels for you too! Gorgeous spots and Roses to die for! They are in the centre of the row....

We have had many more new arrivals and I have posted some of them on my facebook page' The Quilters Corner' have not yet installed the link but will shortly.

Hello Again,
I have just spent way too long trying to upload the newsletter to our website and it will NOT play nicely! So if you want to see our newsletter, just pop me an email and I will send it thru to you. Sorry, I hope to have it sorted out shortly.
I have also finished the February GIFT club project. It is an Insulated Water Bottle Holder and it fits a 1litre water bottle. (OR a bottle of wine if that takes your fancy!

It can be adapted for a shorter bottle if you wish.
Remember that next week we will return to our regular shop hours, with one of us working each day.
Michelle is busy finishing off the twisted bargello quilt and Lorraine is madly finishing the Arts and Crafts Sampler BOM from Michele Hill We hope to have both available for you to see shortly.
I have been writing patterns and working on a rwo by row quilt I will unveil soon....

Happy New Year

I hope that you have all had a lovely festive season with your family and friends.
I am busy writing our new class list ready to go out next week. There are some new classes and some old favourites.
Michelle is teaching a twisted Bargello and I will show you how to 'improve your butt'!
We will have reduced opening hours thru until 17 Jan when our regular hours resume. We are currently open from 10am - 2pm Tue to Fri and 9am - 1pm on Sat.

Brisbane Craft Fair

Phew We have done it! After a busy month of preparing kits and cutting fabric, writing patterns and binding samples we are all set up and raring to go at this weeks craft show at the convention centre. It is our first time as participants and it is so much fun!
Here are a few picks of the stand ready to go....

I love Michelle's new Aussie Aussie Aussie Quilt of Australian flags. It has been getting lots of great comments. We have sold half of our little apples quilt kits too after the first day!
The Advent calendar is also getting lots of great feedback. Well, I am off to put up my feet and enjoy a wine, before tomorrow comes.....

Sarah Jane Studios Fabric

We have had a busy week with our GIFT club groups making the ' Rows of Ruffles' cushion cover and having all sorts of fun learning how to make continuous bias strips and how to gather them using elastic for simple easy ruffles!
I so LOVE Flower sugar fabrics!!!!

I have finally managed to hang our version, of Anni Downes from Hatched and Patched, quilt 'A Boy's Story'
We are so happy with it and Tricia of 'Cut from the Same Cloth' longarm quilting has once again done an outstanding job of quilting it.I hope you can sort of see it in the picture.

It looks even nicer up close so drop in to take a peep if you live nearby :)
Wow two posts in as many days! Well I must go as I am going on a weekend away with some friends to sew! What else! I am quilting my Wrenly Quilt then I will show it to you....

Lullaby in the Night Sky

This cute little cot quilt is designed by Natalie Ross and we just had to make up our own version.
I think it is sooo much fun.

I have also re kitted our version of A Boy's Story from Anni Downes.....

I have been so busy sewing new things for our visit to the Craft Fair in October, that I have been a bit slack on posting, I will try to remedy this by showing bits of my new projects as they come into being...
Back to the ironing board to press my Wrenly quilt, it a free pattern from Valorie Wells, I just had to make it, I love the grey in the background too! Hmmmm now how to quilt it???

My Wonderful Weekend

I hope that you had a wonderful weekend too! I spent Saturday morning browsing through the Eumundi Markets on the QLD Sunshine Coast, so much to see and hear and smell and touch and taste. Heaven. I spent a little money , shhh, don't tell him. It was a lovely morning.... and then we went to The Spirit House Restaurant in Yandina for lunch. OMG it is amazing, a lovely spot beautifully landscaped so that you feel as though you are really in the Thai countryside and the food is divine!
We really need to do this more often I think, take a little time out to enjoy all the colours and flavours around us.
But wait, yes it got even better on Sunday, I got to sit and sew all day...Ahhhhh now that was the best.
I made a couple of little keyholders for our GIFT club class and worked on a new Advent Calander I have designed using some bright new Christmas fabrics.

The housework will get done eventually, but I am truly not a neat freak I have to admit!

Lou Lou Bag by Natalie Ross

I love this bag so much I just had to make 3! I have put it into this term's class list too.

I am recovering today from last weeks crazy busy sale! I was so silly to run a stocktake sale during Wimbledon Week. I think I had too many late, late nights for my own good.If you missed the sale we have created a sale section in the shop so that you can still pick up a bargain for your next project! These fabrics will remain at $12/m until sold (50cm minimum). I have also created a super sale box of fabrics at just $6/m too, these ones are a minimum of 1m though.
I did manage to make it to the Finders Keepers Market on Sunday, it was wonderfully inspiring to see what everyone is crafting and selling on their stalls.
I love this time of year as there seems to be lots of markets and local shows to visit. This is my favourite thing to do :)
Well back to the shop to re organise it for opening tomorrow morning..... We have lots of new Christmas fabrics to display and also some new flannel fabrics and flannel backings.
Hmmmm what to make from them......

James Byrne Centre Retreat Again!

Well I have finally recovered from my second retreat and I apologise for being slow to post about it. I hae heaps of pics of these productive ladies projects. Inspiring!

Phew, have you made it to the bottom? Well done, you really are a quilter, we all love show and tell don't we!

It was a very chilly weekend actually, but that is part of the Toowoomba appeal, we like to wear our winter gear at least once a year! :)

Paris Traveller's Bag Class

What a lovely way to spend a Saturday, surrounded by 7 enthusiastic ladies all keen to create their own special travel bags. It was great to see them come into being and each one as different as their creators!
They are the perfect bags for going on retreat which is where we will be again this weekend! Yes, back to Highfields with our second group of retreatees! Yee Haa another weekend of stitching and chatting and eating and stitching and a little sleeping sometime too.....

I was so inspired I went home and made another one myself!

Yes we will be running this class agin next term so watch out for the newsletter due out at the end of the month.

Bali Batiks are so YUMMY!

I did go ahead and make my Marble Cake Quilt in some gorgeous batik fabrics. I am really loving the great colours and patterns that are available. We will be adding some bundles of 10" squares to our range shortly, they will be layer cake equivalent (42 x 10" squares). We ran a class for this quilt last night and everyone had different fabrics and they looked fantastic!

Now I am off to start another Paris Traveller Bag! I have a special person to give it to and I so love mine that I just have to make another!

Lovebirds Quilt Kit

I have been busy putting this lovely kit together for the colourful Lovebirds Quilt by Kellie from 'Don't Look Now'. It looks good enough to eat I think! Hmmmm do we need a shop sample???

I have been doing some english paper piecing in front of the TV whilst buried under a snuggly warm flannel quilt that is a favourite of mine (and Boris loves it too!). I have enjoyed the slower pace this weekend.

James Byrne Centre Retreat

This was the perfect day and lovely view from outside the door of Marion Hall where we went on retreat in Highfields last weekend. It was a great venue with lovely hosts Paul and Wendy. Everyone was busy sewing like crazy and enjoying the cooler autumn weather!

Mother's Day and a Marble Cake Quilt

These are the beautiful roses my husband gave me for Mother's Day! I am one lucky Mummy! We had a lovely picnic with the boys and Sam's girlfriend Emma. We went down to Scarborough beach.... My Mum's favourite spot to go when she was still with us. In fact we scattered her ashes there, so I always feel even closer to her when we visit this beach. We had some lovely seafood and a bottle of bubbly. We finished off with some scrumptious cake! A blissful day!

I went home and finished the binding on this new quilt. I have called it Marble Cake. It reminded me of the swirly layers of colour inside a yummy marble cake. I have used a layer cake from the fabric range 'Central Park' by Kate Spain. I think I will do another one in some tropical Batiks I am adoring at the moment.
We are heading off to Toowoomba on a sewing retreat this weekend with 38 lovely ladies. I can not wait. I have my projects cut and packed ready to go.
The winter woolies are also packed as it seems to be getting cooler this week already. Brrrr, out with scarves and coat.

Does Boris really deserve this quilt? Well may you ask! I am hoping that he will love it so much he keeps off the other things I am working on. Yes I hear you, FAT CHANCE!

I have been busy with the newsletter and making some new class samples and the poor machine has been working overtime. Today was lovely and rainy and perfect for sewing, so I put on the daggy tracksuit and set myself up for a day of sewing. @#**($# the machine decided it wanted a trip in the car to the sewing machine guru Martin at Bernina Chermside. It just died right in the middle of some free motion quilting! So not happy! I may not even have it back by Easter! Oh how will I cope.... Better bring home my old Janome from the shop! I probably won't be using it down there this week with our sale still continuing til Thursday.
Better go and tidy up my sewing table I guess. We will have a house full of people next week as my baby turns 18 and we are having a party!

Kitty Capers!

Boris has been very busy lately! It seems he wants to christen every single quilt I am making, he loves nothing more than messing up a beautifully laid out quilt top just before you are ready to piece it together! I had this topper above sitting on the table ready to put the binding on and he just had to have a Boris cuddle in it!

Then I had laid out our 'A Boys Story' quilt top and again he was quick to lay on it and just after I took this pic he messed it all up! He is going to be banned to the bedroom if he can't stop mucking up!

Hello Birdie!

I made this funky Bird pillow for my son Tim. He has a quilt on his bed made from a range of fabrics called 'Nest', so his bed was just calling for a birdy to add some feathered style! The pattern is from 'The Red Thread' and is available here Hello Birdie Pillow I have seen a couple of others that people have sewn and they all look so cuddlicious! They are a good size and BTW they make a perfectly useful pillow as well!
I have also received lots of beautiful fabrics in the past week and we have had fun trying to fit them all onto the shelves for you to see.

Ooshka Babushka Dolls!

Aren't they just an adorable pair of cuties! These cute ooshka babushka dolls are made from a pattern designed by Lisa from One Red Thread. They are quick to make and of perfect cuddle size! I did find it best to line them with a thin fusible interfacing though, as one of the fabrics seemed to encourage the bearding of the toy fill through to the outside (grrrrr). We have the patterns available with a choice of four 'faces' with different hair and eye colours. We hope to have the boy faces in soon too. Each pattern comes with one pre- printed face panel. You can purchase separate face panels for $10 each. Although I rather like to appliqued faces myself....
I am off to sew another jewellery roll for April's Gift club project, I will post a pic when it is done!

Sit Me up Donut patterns

How gorgeous is this Sit Me up Donut Pattern from Paula Storm designs. Paula kindly made up our sample with my choice of fabrics and we were thrilled with the results.Paula also has a free tutorial on her blog for a small cushion insert for the centre of the donut once your baby no longer needs to 'sit' in it! Paula's Blog

Paula also has a couple of other patterns and we have a sample of Sammy Seahorse pattern too.We used Rosalie Quinlans pretty new range of fabrics for our version of Sammy and we have kits available also.

A big thank you to Paula for sewing our samples!
Watch out over the next few days as I have lots of new info to tell you about! We have had lots of new stuff arriving and have been sooo busy stitching up new samples and projects that I have not had time to blog but I sure to make amends this week!

I just had to show you the quilt I just received back from Tricia at "Cut from the Same Cloth" longarm quilting service.She did a lovely job of allover quilting my latest quilt. I designed it around a cute print from Bonnie and Camille's Bliss range from Moda fabrics. It is Layer cake friendly as well. The circle/square blocks are actually printed fabric.

We have been drooling over Amy's latest fabrics and can't wait to make up something new. I have a bag cut out, it is the one on the cover of her new book 'Style Stitches'.Shop for it now online! I just have to find some time to sew it!

I just wanted to take a moment to wish you all a lovely safe and happy festive season with your family and friends.
I am looking forward to a nice holiday with my family. We are off to the beach for 10 days! Bring on the sun sand and cocktails!
The store will be open over the Christmas / New Year period. We are closed on all the public holidays and will be open with reduced hours from 10 am -2pm Tues - Fri and 9am - 1pm Sat.
Normal hours will resume on the 18th January 2011,

Well I have just walked in the door! I have been at the shop all day organising all the sale fabrics for tomorrow. We are having a monster clearance sale to make way for loads of new stock.There will be hundreds of bolts at 50% off the regular price. There is 20% off all our other fabrics and 15% off books and notions. Christmas Fabrics are now 25% off too. Advent Angels BOM by Rosalie Quinlan

Karen Rohjan has finished her Advent Angels BOM, it looks amazing and her stitcheries are lovely. I thought you may want a look at it, so that you can see our fabric choices.... Bliss fabrics

I am currently piecing a quilt from the Bliss fabric range and Boris just wanted to help!

Tim, just back from Schoolies, was helping me layout the blocks and Boris decided to join in the fun. He was just waiting for the right moment to mess them all up! It is his favourite trick! I usually put him in the bedroom while this process is happening but Tim was going to 'mind him'. Hmmm

I have the blocks laid out now just to piece them and add a border or two......

Toytime Circus BOM

We are happy to announce that we will run this great 8 part Block of the Month program starting in January 2011. It will be $30/month. If you want the pattern alone it is $9.90/month. Postage and handling is charged at Australia Post rates. Below are the blocks we have put together (minus the odd missing eye!) to date, I will post the centre block when it is put together. We love it! Our colours are similar yet different!

What a Hoot Fabric

This is the third pattern in my K.I.S.S. quilts range(Keeping it Sew Simple) and it is cot sized. Lorraine pieced it using the cute 'What a Hoot' fabric range. We do have a few kits available.
Well... I am one slightly anxious Mother this week with my youngest son away at Schoolies on the Gold Coast. We delivered him to his hotel safe and sound and the traffic wasn't that bad. The rest is up to him now.... I have to trust him to make the right decisions when the time comes and hope that he can hear that little voice (OK that nagging voice) in his head guiding him in the right direction. I will sleep easier next week!
I am off to the machine to get some sewing done..... distraction is a marvelous thing.

Gorgeous Little Bags

Sue Keating from 'zucchinigirl' was in the store last week and purchased this yummy fabric and quickly turned it into something too cute for words! She has it for sale on www.madeit.com.au/zucchinigirl Sue has other cute stuff there as well.
I spent the evening making a string of bunting using some doilies I picked up at the fleamarket on Sunday morning. It is sooo pretty, though it was hard cutting all the doilies in half! I think I may add some buttons to it now. When I have finished I will post a pic.
I also found a lovely crochet throw in a teal colour, perfect for No 2 Sons room! Not bad for just $1 and not a hole to be found. I hope that one day my darling family don't sell off all my hand made 'heirlooms' for just a dollar at the fleamarket. I would come back and haunt them!

Michelle and I spent a lovely afternoon at the Finders Keepers Markets at the Old Museum building. I picked up Frankie Magazine's 'Sweet Treats' Book and I am off to make some Yummy Toffees right now.... hmmmm where are the hundreds and thousands?

These pretty Robyn Pandolph prints have just arrived, hmmm what to make next......

I have been busy updating some of our Christmas samples to some of the yummy new ranges we have this year. I have updated the Christmas Tree skirt with Moda's '12 days of Christmas' and the Tipsy Triangle runner with
Robert Kaufman's 'Sparkle all the Way'. I really love this range and have made the latest GIFT club project from it too! It is a cute little basket for bread rolls or anything really, you could make them in lots of different sizes too.

Sew much to do and sew little time!

I feel like I have been sewing up a storm and we have had enough of them in town over the past few weeks! I have finished our latest strip club Daisy Chains it is in yummy spring colours, and also in a Black and white and red version. I made a scrappy binding and it looks good enough to eat!
I guess it is the warmer weather, and the fact that I love these colours but I also made our latest GIFT club project up in similar colours, we have made the armchair caddy before but I really love this re vamped version in 'Nicey Jane' fabrics by Heather Bailey.

I have pieced a New Christmas quilt, which is available from http://www.quiltsoup.com/
It is called Hip Holidays and the pattern is a free download. We have a small number of kits available too.
I love their fabrics too.... hmmmmm must be why I own a fabric shop! I am addicted to fabric!
Well back to the machine to finish off my new Christmas Tree Skirt...

I can't believe how close Christmas is yet again, my youngest son is finishing school this year and only has about 6 weeks left to go. I feel like the year has gone way too fast for my liking....

Minh, who just finished the beginner course last term, has done an amazing job of her kaleidoscope quilt this term, there were lots of challenging points to match and she has done a great job. Well done!
I will post some of the others too when they come to visit us :)
Gift Club this month is a practical Market style of bag. No wadding just fabrics so that you can roll it up and carry it in your bag to take shopping.

I was able to use a gorgeous wooden button I had been saving for 'that' special project, I put a yoyo in the middle of it as well and I love it.
We have had some very beautiful new fabrics arrive last week, Under the Australian Sun by Aussie Leesa Chandler. They are very popular and we have already re-ordered them, we still have lots available at the moment.The fabrics feature native Australian blooms with Waratahs and other pretty flowers they come in several colourways and have gold highlights. The best Aussie range to be released in some time.....
I hope to get them up this week on our website.

Spring is almost here!

Wow! We had a great weekend at the Samford Quilt show, it was really busy. It was lovely to see so many people there, as well as lots of beautiful quilts.
We had part of our Down in the Garden Block of the Month on display and it was getting lots of interest. Perfect for some Spring stitching I think :) We have several kits still available. Our fabrics are almost the same as the original by Leanne Beasley. Certainly all the main feature fabrics are the same. Rosalie Quinlan's Grandmother's Garden range is just so yummy and it is used in this quilt.
We have lots of other Springtime floral fabrics in the shop, no surprise there as they are my favourites.
We have a little Spring time surprise for you when you shop in store or on the website, if you spend over $10 you will receive a small gift from us during the whole month of September.....

More new books arrive

I have had a great weekend! Mark had been away for 10 days in NZ for work and when he returned we went to the Brisbane Ekka, the first time in our marriage we have gone without the kids, they were 'over it Mum'! We wandered the foodie stalls and tasted the wines and cheeses and just plain dawdled about. It was great! We checked at the fashion parade and wandered down sideshow alley.... We stuck out heads into the show bag pavilion but did a quick reverse, so much rubbish in there! I was keen to stay for the fireworks but the temperature was dropping fast and it was pretty windy too so I opted for the leisurely trip home on the train.
We then went out for brunch to Emporium on Sunday morning and it was very civilized! We stopped for some retail therapy on the way to the airport at DFO and then Mark left for Perth! It was a busy few days and i did not get any sewing done at all, but sometimes life is like that! Though today I am busy stitching my Advent Angels BOM sample, We are having a stall at the Samford Quilters Quilt show which is on the last weekend in August and I am trying to finish the top at least by then...
New stock of the Hootie Hoo Family pattern has arrived for those of you waiting on it.
Sorry, there are no pics today as I am having trouble uploading them today! Silly blogger won't play nice!

New Jelly Roll Book has arrived!

Just a quick post to let you know the new Jelly Roll Book 'Two from One Jelly Roll Quilts has now arrived. It is a lovely book and has lots of ideas for lap sized quilts.
Some other wonderful news is that Michelle won first prize in her category for her amazing 'Aunt Millies Garden' quilt, at the Brisbane Exhibition. Well done Michelle! If you are going to the Ekka drop in and have a look a the quilts, hers is the large Appliqued one with Red background and all those amazing flowers, it was a Piece of Cake design.

Curvy Cushion

I have had a very busy month and I can not believe that I did not actually post during the last month, so sorry! Well, I am another year older now, and the partying has wound up for another year! I have several friends who share my Birthday month and it feels like we eat cake every day, it's a hard life, VBG.

I have just finished this month's GIFT club project and it is sure to make somebody your love very comfy!

I have used Heather Bailey's range of fabrics called 'Nicey Jane' it is one of my favourites. It utilisies some free form curved piecing and would suit any sort of fabrics, in fact I have also another made from bold Batik fabrics too and I think it looks great.

All our current block of the month projects have their next installment ready for mail out or collection. I plan to put up actual block pictures of our samples onto the website later this week.Keep a look out for them.
I have finished the Kaleidoscope quilt and Tricia kindly quilted it for me. This term's class if full but we will offer it again next term.
I hope that this lovely weather has you all stitching away, I am trying to finish the advent angels BOM sample in my spare time, but there are so many new fabrics arriving that my thoughts keep wandering off to new projects.... Until next time...

Kaleidoscopes

I have had a great weekend playing with Kaleidoscope blocks. I just love making them up and being surprised by how they turn out! Now just to decide on a layout! I have used a large print from the Oz range of fabrics, it is amazing how the blocks look nothing like the original fabric...

K.I.S.S. Quilts

Just a quick post to show the first of my new K.I.S.S. quilt patterns, Keeping It Sew Simple! I have designed a rather versatile little cot quilt that is perfect for a feature fabric that you just do not want to cut up too much.

Of course it still needs to be quilted, but I am hoping to get it done on our second retreat this weekend!

We have about 30 ladies heading off to Highfields again this Friday! Woo Hoo!

More sewing time for me!

I have also cut some flannel boy versions of the 'Gelati Baby Quilt' and the fabrics are pictured below, the red flannel is the sashing!

Busy, Busy, Busy!

I have been flat out since we came back from retreat and I have a few pics to show you of few new shop samples...
First of all is Gelati Baby a colourful simple cot quilt, Made up in flannel so soft and yummy!

We have made up sits to suit a girl, and our boy version is full of cute little dinosaurs in greens and blues and red!
Now just to get it quilted....
I have also pieced a giant 100" monster for my King size bed at home, it is huge! Loads of Roses in pinks and greens, I can't wait to put it on my bed...ZZZZ

I have also just finished the June gift club project and it is a ruler/mat bag to carry all your 'Stuff'. The pattern will be available next week. It uses charm squares and our favourite bag batting...

I have almost finished another flannel quilt top in the woolies, but machine is smokin' it has been working so hard!

Michelle has been stitching away on the BOM 'Down in the Garden', and Lorraine is finishing the binding on 'Lovebird Lane' it has come back from being quilted by Tricia and it looks divine! It should be hanging in store next week.

This lovely bouquet of flowers arrived for me on Tuesday. it was a gorgeous 'Thankyou' from the ladies who attended the retreat. I felt very special and the flowers smell divine!

Retreat! Retreat! Retreat!

Well, we all had a great time on retreat! Lots of stitching and laughter and friendship and food and a drink or two! I managed to sew up two quilt tops and will have to get them quilted asap. We ran an aesthetically challenged (ugly) mug swap and Leona ended up with the prize Man Mug. Yes, she did drink her coffee out of this all weekend. BTW really nice PJ's Leona!

Everyone arrived to a goody bag filled with treats, I can not tell you what was inside, as we have another group going on retreat next month so I do not want to spoil their surprise now do I?
The weather was cool but not freezing and the fire kept us warm at night.....
We did a little shopping at The Quilters Angel at Highfields and a couple of other local shops in Toowoomba, I am sure they were happy to see us.
Here are some of the girls stitching away. The light in the room was actually very good, but as a photographer I leave a lot to be desired!

Only a few more sleeps til our May retreat!

There are 40 very excited ladies packing their bags as I blog, we are heading off to Highfields for a weekend of fun and friendship and some stitching. We have packed our aesthetically challenging, uniquely individual coffee mugs for a swap challenge, and our hats for Saturday night! A few bottles of bubbly and lots of projects to choose from in case we change our minds....
We are going to visit The Quilters Angel in Highfields, and catch up with the lovely Marion and Steph.

The hall at our venue is lovely and bright with loads of space. I am so looking forward to a whole weekend of sewing! Yipee! I will take some pics and let you know what everyone is up to.
I hope that you all have a great weekend too!

First of all I want to thank everyone that came into the store during our clearance sale and helped us move lots of fabric! We have now created space for all the new stuff!

We have Nicey Jane by Heather Bailey, Hunky Dory from Chez Moi, Simply Sweet from Quilt Soup and Marabella by Amy Hamberlin of Kati Cupcake Pattern Co to name a few! We also have lots of new flannels for the men in our lives and those who do not like flowers! We do have lots of floral flannels of course! There are some other yummy fabrics too and some new batiks. The shelves are overflowing once more!

We have a gorgeous new Flower Show quilt and have several kits available but be quick for this one as they have been selling really fast! This quilt was adapted from a pattern by The Quilt Company called Lindsay by Karen Montgomery. Yes it is large! Generous Queen size/King size.

We also have Michelle's version of Aunt Millie's Garden Quilt on display for a short time. If you joined this BOM and want to see how our kit looks finished, please drop in for a look. It is simply stunning! Well done Michelle!

Sorry it has been a few weeks since my last post.... I have been busy sewing new samples and tonnes of new stuff has arrived. Most of you would have received the new class list/newsletter by now. I have just finished the new strip club project called 'Ric Rac Runner'. We have kits for the top without the optional border for $15 this includes the pattern sheet.There are several colourways. Sample shows colourway 1.

There is also an Amy Butler pinks version and a batik version in vivid oranges pinks and purples...

'Down in the Garden' block of the Month and 'Remember When' Block of the Month programmes are up and running.

I hope you all had a break over the Easter long weekend and managed a little sewing. I am busy sewing Dresden plates for our China Plates quilt class next month.I am so loving them! I love the fabrics too, so it is just so much fun making up this project. I did have a quick chat to Martin the Bernina Guru about the best way to set up the machine to take monofilament thread, not a favourite of mine, but I wanted to give it a go with the new Superior Mono poly thread and see if it changes my mind.I'll let you know!

'Garden Party' by Blackbird Designs

Wow, I have been inundated with new fabrics this week! This quilt made from Blackbird Designs Range 'Garden Party' is just so pretty. Michelle already has a sample underway! We actually finished cutting kits today, but we will have a limited number, so if you are interested check it out on the website.(Under Fabric Kits). We have a 30's range called Let's Play and I hope to get it on the website this weekend for you to see.
There are more flannels and an absolutely to die for Valorie Wells polar fleece with a funky owl design!
Sooo soft.
I am off to finish a binding and then stitch up a few dresden plates, keep an eye out for what they are turning into...

I have updated the blog design to match my website.
I will be adding lots more things over the next few weeks....
Christine from Gecko Gully Web Designs has been very patient with me and helped me to get this far. I am thrilled that we can now share it with everyone. Thanks Christine!
I have also been adding some new patterns to the site and I just had to whip up a sample of Bye Bye Birdie from Kookaburra Cottage. It is a gorgeous cot sized quilt that is perfect for using up charm squares. We have kits available for this quilt too.

Our border is an aqua colour with a larger floral print and is from the featured fabric range.
There are a couple of other new patterns from Majella up on the site as well.
Kellie Wulfson from Don't Look Now has some yummy patterns and we have most of them in stock now. If you have been in to the store this year you have probably seen the sanmples we have of Oh Christmas Tree and the Willow cushion. Michelle has a class in this cushion cover starting shortly.

Elegant Eggs!

I have been having a little fun designing next month's Gift Club project. I wanted to make it with an Easter theme and thought well it just has to be a yummy scrummy Easter Egg. Boris was helping me of course, taking great interest in the construction of said eggs and really enjoying the reject prototypes!You know too skinny , too square, but perfectly kitty friendly.....

I was really happy with the finished eggs and promptly made a half dozen of them! I will have the pattern available shortly in case you feel eggsactly like me and want to make some for yourself.....or even give them away...... maybe....

What's happening at the Corner

Phew I have spent the day working on the new website! Up loading tonnes of pics etc. We hope to have everything ready to go by the start of March. I am so excited!
I have also been busy piecing a few quilt tops which Tricia from Cut from the Same Cloth has quilted for me. They look great as usual, thanks Tricia! The quilt below is this term's strip club project, I have called it strip boxes. It is both layer cake or jelly roll compatible. Kits are $62 each. We have released it in several different colourways.

Loads of new fabrics have been arriving over the past two weeks! Where are we going to put it all? Moda ranges OZ and Blush are just so yummy check them out at the Moda website. We also have pre-cuts of these ranges now in stock.
Michelle has finished the Willow cushion cover and it looks fantastic! There are still a few spots left in this two part class with Michelle.

I am off to do a little sewing as I am getting withdrawals today, too much computing. My sewing machine is calling me! HAve a g reat week, Cheers, Liisa

Sam's 21st

It is so hard to believe that my tiny baby is now a 21yr old man! It is an old cliche but time really does fly....
We had a great time at the party and it is wonderful to realise that Sam has some really fantastic friends. Their speeches on the night were a highlight for me.
Sam had a good time and really enjoyed himself.

We have had a busy week at the store with fabric boxes arriving left, right and centre! Now we just have to find some space on the shelves. The new Moda range called OZ is so gorgeous, hmmmmm what to do with this one? We have two new flannel ranges which will be out in the next week or so... as soon as we make some room for them. Cute new lady bug fabrics are flying out the door, right along with the yummy fairy fabrics!
I am off to put the binding on two new samples, Thankyou Tricia for quilting them so fast! You really are a legend. Lucky there is still a little tennis to watch... Oh, but who to cheer for, I like both Federer and Murray so I guess I will be pleased no matter who wins tonight.

Boris behaving Badly

I have not only discovered the joys of being a cat mama but also the pitfalls! I had carefully laid out a quilt top on the floor when Boris came flying through the door and scattered it to the four corners of the room. OK I thought, I should have thought of that.... So i carefully stacked my rows neatly,now they should stay put....Boris thought he may take a little bath on top of them....

But that was boring so he then found a new game called 'Flip' whereby he slipped a naughty paw under each pile and flipped it about causing his mama to flip out over the mess! I have a lot to learn....
But I did get the quilt together and now I just have to clip all the seam allowances for my new Amy Butler version of a raggy quilt.Lucky I have my favourite raggy scissors at hand!

Off to watch some tennis and snip away....

I have also been having a huge clean up 'out the back' of the shop and I have found a few little gems for you.

I have been busy sewing this month's strip club and making another sample for the shop. Our new BOM programmes for this year are also on the to do list so there really is no time to waste around here!
My son Sam's 21st party is now organised and we are counting down to that one at the end of the month.... I cannot believe how quickly those years have flown by.Listening to him talking about his future plans for travel and career options etc makes me realise he really is not my little baby anymore, but a lovely young man with his whole future ahead of him, yes I am having a soppy mummy moment look out!

Welcome to 2010! Wow, can you believe how fast 2009 flew by. I am keeping this post short cause I should really be writing a newsletter..... And planning my son's 21st at the end of the month... and my sister is coming to visit, so need to clean the house... and playing with my Christmas present 'Boris' the Siberian heart catching cat!....Oh no, I am a closet cat person...and I just want to finish off another new sample... where did Mark hide the sewing machine.... Tim wants another LAN party.... another night with a house full of teenage boys..... Where is the cat..... Where do you need a lift to Sam?.... And we ask why does the year fly by so fast!! LOL
I really need to get back to work!

Busy Busy Busy!

Thanks to everyone that dropped in during the sale, we really did have a few crazy busy days. Now I can start to think about Christmas.... I have not bought a thing yet! I have visions of still finishing lots of bits and pieces but
time will tell. I am supposed to be tidying up the house for Christmas and putting the machine away for a bit, but it still has pride of place in the middle of the dining table. Eating around the coffee table is becoming the norm in our house.
I was in Melbourne last Christmas ,or was it the one before, and took this pic of a store display, it totally cracked me up. I think it was a dress shop. The turkey had a great look on his face that doesn't show up that well. Must fly, my last class of the year is tonight, so better get down to the shop.

Back from Melbourne Quilt Market

Michelle and I had a great weekend at the trade market in Melbourne over the weekend.It was a very busy few days checking out what is new and exciting and coming our way soon! We have a new BOM for next year that is just yummy, I will give you a tiny peak later...
We caught up with some of our favourite designers and it was wonderful. Rosalie Quinlan is such a lovely lady and her new fabrics are so yummy!

Michelle and Mel from Melly and Me designs had a great chat too! Keep an eye out for the new patterns arriving shortly!
Miss Mouse is just sooo cute!
We will now be stocking the wonderful designs by Kellie from 'Don't Look Now'. The patterns are now in store and are sure to be popular!

Hi All, I only ever have luck with sweeps but this year decided to actually try and pick a horse. Oh well, maybe next year, I think my horse is still running....

It has been a busy week of deliveries at the shop, loads of lovely new fabrics are turning up almost every day, only where are they going to fit?? The latest Jelly Roll book 'Jelly Roll Inspirations' has just arrived and is as yummy as it predecessors.

We have Saffron Craig's Funky Owl fabrics and have a few kits of our book wrap still available.There is a class tonight making this cutie and we are going to have a lot of fun sewing it up.
Michelle has been making Christmas stockings and we have stacks of Christmas fabrics are on the shelves.We also have the Lions Christmas cakes. Great value at $13 for the 1.5kg and$10 for the 1kg cake. Drop in and pick up yours before they all go.

Life is Busy Here

Hi All,
Well life is a little busy in our world at present. We have a great young man Nick from Germany visiting for 3 weeks. We have been busy showing him around Brisbane, I had never been on the City Cat before, what a great way to see the river and lovely homes that are around it. The Jacarandas are in full bloom too.
In the shop we have had more new fabrics arriving.....
Rosalie Quinlan's new fabrics are here and so is her new book. 'A Stitch in Time'
We have our latest BOM Blossom Creek finished and hanging for you to see. I hope you like the pic of it.
We have some still available at $30/month for 5 months.

Welcome to my Blog, This is my first posting and I hope I am about to learn a whole lot about blogging. I will be adding stuff as I learn the ropes, so stay tuned...
I have just returned from a quick visit to Melbourne where I spent some great time with my Sister and her family. We also visited the 'Last Days of Pompeii' exhibit at the Melbourne Museum, worth a look if you are in town.
I thought I would share a pic of our latest strip club project with you. Each month we put out a new project with precut fabric strips and a pattern to follow to make your own version.
We generally have a bout 3 0r 4 colourways to choose from and the kit price is discounted 25% off the RRP. They are usually very popular.
